As noted in a previous post I was delighted to have been chosen from an open call for this new festival. On learning via an organiser’s email that our photographers were being displayed around Malton I went to the Brass Castle Brewery, as I had time to kill while my car was being serviced. I was less than delighted, and not a little shocked, to see it being displayed like this. I was aware that our photos were going to be in business windows but little did I think they would be stuck on with blu tac (I saw others sellotaped) and with the thin paper (I later learnt archival) that was already warping.
I’m not critical of the owners of the pub who were left the ‘posters’ to display as they wish but feel more care and respect should have been shown by the organisers to the many photographers who freely gave their work in support of the festival. As a minimum some quality card framing would have at least improved the presentation and a thicker paper – why archival was chosen I do not know, we have already been told our photographs will ‘be destroyed’ at the end of the event.
I requested my photo be removed together with associated website details and this was done immediately.
It’s a shame as the festival has quite a few interesting talks etc and the overall aims are so worthwhile.
