A day at Dalby Forest

I wouldn’t normally choose to spend a rainy, dull day at Dalby Forest but as my son Sam and his friend James were taking part in the Dalby Inferno there was no place I’d rather be!

So what exactly is the Dalby Inferno?

Are you prepared for the burn…?

  • A 5.5km forest loop.
  • Starting on the hour.
  • Every hour.
  • For ten hours.

It started at 9am with the first loop – here are the lads heading off:

And so it went on, lap after lap. Completing 5.5 km each lap in around 40 minutes they had a bit of a food/ drink break before returning to the start line. Around 200 runners took part, though as each lap was completed the numbers slowly dropped.

Here’s some shots from the day:

Smiling and waving with James’s mum filming
Looking comfortable as they get swiped in at the end of each lap
Getting very wet, but still smiling
Breaks for a quick sit down and refuel were vital
The support crew Ange, Dave and Fynn with his tennis ball.
While Sam and James were away Finn entertained us
James’s bro Charlie and his partner Emilia came for the final stages

And they did it! Lap 10 completed – their first ultra marathon!

Well done Sam and James!

And wearing the race T shirts (probably for the first and last time – pink and orange!!)

A great day and supporting the work of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance too!
