Women of Kirkbymoorside

I haven’t posted in ages because I’ve been preparing for my second exhibition ‘Women of Kirkbymoorside’

It ran at our Methodist Chapel March 4th – 11th and included, as its focus, ‘International Women’s Day’.

I wanted to both practice creating portraits but also to highlight and celebrate the amazing contribution women make to the life of our community.

Jill Wells – Mayor

Creating the portraits took around three months with around 70 completed, mostly individuals but plenty of group shots too.

Here are a few others:

Over the week we estimated we had more than 200 visitors and on the evening of International Women’s Day around 50 women came to have a drink, view the exhibition and enjoy a chat.

Tash – Director, Helmsley Arts Centre

BBC Radio York also visited on IWD and had their roving reporter Cara at the chapel for the breakfast show. She interviewed me, Rachel, Jill and Julia and lots of local people reported having heard us.

Tuesday Walking Group

We raised £388 for Women’s Aid and I’ve got orders for around fifty books, created using Blurb, which features all the portraits.

Kathy Robson – secretary Women’s Fellowship

So what project shall I do next?!
