Yesterday we strode out in the afternoon to the headland of Vazon Bay where this impressive fortification I thought might offer an interesting photographic opportunity.

It is built on the site of fortifications that date back to 1680, and consists of a Martello tower from 1804, with later additions during the Victorian Era.

The fort was added to in 1942 by the occupying German forces. The fortification is home to a restored gun site, as operational in 1943-45, but was closed for visitors yesterday.
