Headshots and more with Jessie

It was great to spend time with voice over artist and actor Jessie Brooks who visited this week. We’d not met before, she followed up my offer of free head shots to the York-based Gillygate Collective, so it was lovely to have lunch and a good chat before we started the shoot.

I’m still very much on a learning curve with photo portraiture. That’s one of the reasons I don’t charge as I gain so much from every shoot. Experimenting with lighting, back drops, poses and locations. This session was the first one in my new home studio and I think it worked quite well, though I do need to upgrade my lighting equipment. We also went outside and discovered a couple of backgrounds that I think worked OK.

I’ve invested in the Damien Lovegrove online lighting course after taking part in one of his free masterclasses so I hope that will help me take the next step!

Anyway, here’s just a few from my shoot with Jessie:

I like the brick and log background combo here

Always good to have fun with some props!
When I upgrade my lighting I’ll be able to add even more drama to shots like these
I love shots like this – natural and sensitive
And this …
More assertive
perhaps my favourite of the day –
the movement in Jessie’s hand, looking into the deadspace – bit of story here for me.

A fabulous, creative and fun afternoon with Jessie.
