After being a regular contributor to the blog I had to take a break due to pressing family matters that have taken up the last few months. Photography had to take a back seat both because of time constraints but also inspiration was distinctly lacking.
Then once things had settled down a little there was a need to think about direction. I’d taken a decision to wind down professional work (teaching public speaking in schools) and to give more time to creative endeavours. But what?
While I haven’t been doing much photography-wise I have developed quite an interest in drawing. Various YouTube artists have been inspirational such as Mad Charcoal and also Draw Brighton is fantastic resource that I’ve subscribed to.

I’ve also done a three day portrait sculpture course with Andrian Melka which was great and I’m aiming to do more.

So, with all that in mind I decided to create both a photographic studio and a more practical space at home. My wife has also moved into retirement so her old office and adjoining box room became free. I took out the middle wall and two rooms became one. These are all located at one end of the house and so work well together – the photo studio downstairs and workshop now above. It’s taken quite a bit of work to pull it together but I’m just about there now and delighted with the results. Rubbish photos but here’s what it all looks like:

Just about set to go working across photography, drawing and clay sculpture.
Next month we’re heading to southern Spain for a couple of months most of which we’ll be based in Valencia but also visiting Bilbao, Pamploma and Madrid. Lots of street photography opportunities as well as gallery visits. This blog will therefore be updated regularly and I may even post on Instagram too.
