Autumn is upon us

A miserly day yesterday that didn’t encourage me to venture out until late afternoon when guilt forced me to stick my coat on and go for a walk.

It’s nearly always not as bad as anticipated and with the rain only slight and the autumnal colours of our local woodland glorious I was glad to be striding out. I had my Ricoh GR3 and a small portable light but with no particular plan in mind. The Ricoh has not had much use recently. Since getting wet after being hit with a freak wave on Scarborough sea front setting it manually has been a nightmare, plus there are inevitable dust spots. But I wasn’t in the mood to carry the Canon.

The light was fading fast but I thought there might be some interesting shots to be had. Images that kind of reflected my mood – not the most positive at this time of the year as we bid farewell to summer and anticipate the darkness and chills to come.

First though, three images from the same walk but made a few weeks ago. I discovered these on the card and quite like them.

Now from last night:

Mist and fading light
Tractor night shift
Same corn field as previously

I experimented with the small light I’d brought along and am quite pleased with the results.

The blue light of the darkening sky creates as interesting background
Grainy corn with high ISO

The battery on the light was quite low but before it went I changed the colour to red to experiment with some vegetation shots against the black background.

Not sure where this is going creatively but the light is currently charging and maybe these dark nights won’t be so bad after all.
