Rebecca Callis, ceramicist

A Sunday potter

Yesterday I popped down the road to meet ceramicist Rebecca Callis in her converted Victorian wash house, now lovely garden studio.

Becca is part of a small collective of Ryedale artists, Makers of Rye, who recently had a high quality exhibition in Sinnington village hall. I offered to photograph members in their studios and Becca kindly invited me down on the weekend.

Here’s a small selection:

I work in porcelain, a material I value for its purity and sensitivity to the artist’s touch. It is a clay that demands respect and rewards intention. Wheel-thrown, my work’s functionality is rooted in the comfort of everyday ritual.
