Latest from the farm

Haven’t been to check on progress for a while so lovely to head across the moors to see what has been happening.

On the way I noticed there’s been quite a bit of tree planting along the track that leads to the farm.

Each one these larger tree protectors has four saplings within it

Apparently the North York Moors National Park has tree planting grants thanks to monies from the potash mine development.

The farm has benefitted too.

A new orchard
Comice – Pear
Fruit cage with bushes from previous garden
Base for a greenhouse
Strawberry bed
Veg beds are planned with carpet being used to smother weeds
A flag walkway being constructed with a little water gill running down the middle
These poppies are a welcome surprise

Our astute owner has, as usual, been busy spotting bargains on Facebook Marketplace and at York Auctions:

This lovely linen press needs a bit of work but was a steal

Normally new bathrooms cost thousands. Not in this case however. Each bedroom will have its own en suite. And here’s the sanitary ware all ready to be installed. The whole lot – less than £200!

Some is brand new …
Metal guttering costs a fortune new – this needs work but will do the job

Not many changes inside but the kitchen looks great.

Hydrangea’s bought cheaply from Lidl will end up in the garden
The range is all ready to go in here
Both of these bought for pennies!
Family clock
New door in the courtyard

Can’t help but feel inspired visiting the farm. The owner is so resourceful and practical – both essential to this massive project she is taking on. Relieved to see she still has boundless enthusiasm and energy plus she’s getting a little bit of help from time to time. I’ll check in again towards the end of the summer to see how she’s doing.
