The Whey Aye Wheel

Following the completion of a two-year commission to document the building of a major country house, the ‘Whey Aye Wheel’ in Newcastle provides an opportunity to chronicle another landmark project.

Work was due to begin on Newcastle’s gigantic £100m Giants on the Quayside development, including the ‘Whey Aye Wheel’, in 2021. It will be Europe’s tallest observation wheel and latest news reports indicate it is expected to be open in Spring 2024.

I have a particular soft spot for the area having studied at Sunderland University and lived both in Gateshead and Seaton Burn. Having family and friends in the area I’m also is also a frequent visitor to the city.

Over the next two years I’m looking forward to watching and reporting on the progress of this impressive project.

I am not employed by the client, the World Wheel Company, and will be undertaking this documentary in a purely freelance capacity.
