Helmsley Castle, North Yorkshire

Quick walk around Duncombe Park

It’s been a miserable few days weatherwise so have not ventured out with my camera. Today, though it briefly snowed this morning, it was bright at times this afternoon so in desperate need of fresh air I took the short trip to Helmsley.

Town was devoid of many people so instead of seeking some street shots I headed off to Duncombe Park whose extensive grounds are free for locals to enjoy, including walking their dogs, as long as they don’t chase the sheep.

You can see Helmsley Castle and the brick walls of Helmsley Walled Garden in this image – both are now open to the public. The town is such a mecca for day visitors with these two attractions, as well as the many gift shops and eating places.

Duncombe Park itself is not open to the public but the Bird of Prey Centre, located within the grounds, is a relatively new venture and enjoys many visitors.

And the temple in black and white.

Not an exciting or challenging couple of hours of photography but great to be out in the fresh air and capturing the flavour of this local landmark.
