Podcast: Photography Daily

I’ve only just discovered the Photography Daily podcast and can’t remember how but it’s a recommended listen.

The man behind it is Neale James and his laid back style is just how I like it – for fear of offending him I can best describe his voice as old style Radio 2 – think Johnnie Walker. A brilliant interviewer, gentle but perceptive, he poses the questions you and I would probably ask. I don’t feel this podcast is a showcase for his talents, unlike others where the presenter’s ‘personality’ is constantly in your face. This is about photography and the people who are passionate about it, as clearly Neale is.

Here’s a recent episode:

This is how Neale describes the show:

Photography Daily is a show to inspire photographers of all abilities, interests and/or commercial standing. This is a show that doesn’t promise photographic ‘get rich quick’ schemes, but one that deals with the why rather than the how. Our programming talks with and about a real range of genres; street, wildlife, nature, social, news, editorial and isn’t afraid to tackle subjects like mental health, diversity and inclusion. This is a reference library of thoughts, opinion and ideas.

Photography Daily now features two interview shows per week on a Monday and Wednesday, with a mailbag show on a Friday recorded on location during a photowalk, the only one of its kind in this podcast genre. But why the title, Daily? Well, I believe that we, as photographers, never quite switch off, regardless of whether we are ‘professional’ or otherwise. Photography for many isn’t about money, even ironically many professionals. It is a way of life, part of their identity, a way to tune in and a way to switch off from the noise too! We may not make pictures every day, but I sense we feel and act as photographers every day.

I’ve decided to subscribe to the site and support the podcast with a monthly subscription of about £3 – great value.

Take a listen and see what you think.
