And Sinnington Woods.
Set off in the rain but it brightened up as I got into the woods above the village. Super walk, great to see the wild garlic coming through, but don’t really feel photographically inspired today. Shows in the images, cottage looking a bit like I feel – hey ho – one of those days.
Background to the Cottage
Nutholme Cottage is a rural, 18th Century stone cottage set within a stunning landscape. It lies close to the 12th Century planned medieval village of Appleton le Moors on the southern fringe of the North York Moors between Pickering and Kirkbymoorside.
Close to Appleton Mill Farm (managed in partnership with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust), Nutholme Cottage is usually accessible by crossing the ford in wellies, but if the river comes up after heavy rain, then a 15 to 20 minute walk through the beautiful woodlands will get you there.
In 1757 William Scoresby married a local girl Ann, who was from Cropton, and they came to live at Nutholme. William and Ann’s son was also called William, born at Nutholme in 1760. He grew up to be the great whaling captain, explorer, and inventor of the Crow’s Nest. Find out more and book your stay at Nutholme.
