Isolation hits

My son Sam returned from a brief holiday in Magaluf with great memories but sadly with Covid too, so we all had to go into isolation. I did think I might use the opportunity to try some indoor photography with the Ricoh but decided instead to paint the exterior windows of the house! We’d had several renovated by our local joiner and they were in need of painting so, as the weather was good, that’s what I did.

I do like to keep posting to Instagram so over the last few days added some from the archives:

The thing I probably love most about photography is that it helps secure memories that might otherwise fade. I remember the walk along the River Ouse in York, seeing the ice cream van and this gentleman clutching his ice cream – then the Slow Mind That Child – click.

Lowna, near Gillamoor, is one of my favourite places to walk in all the different seasons and it’s rare you meet anyone. There’s a Quaker burial ground which is so peaceful and contemplative, something I tried to capture with these images I took a year or so ago.

Some Whitby images that I feel a bit happier with than I did previously. The advice to not delete immediately is sound as you sometimes see things on a later viewing that you might miss initially. I wasn’t too keen on this gentleman leaning on the pier railings but now I like the reflective mood he’s showing – I wonder what he’s thinking about??

I also went way back and uploaded some Blackpool photos which must be 2-3 years old. I messed about with the orginals too much and created some arty effects that I now don’t like. I did lose some originals in the process which is a shame but all part of the learning.

Great to be finally out of isolation and be able to go out and about exploring again.
