Enjoying the work of Adrian Villa

I’d not come across this photographer before and was alerted to him by Tomasz Trzebiatowski of Frames magazine who sends out a daily Photosnack email with a recommended introduction.

Adrian has focused on creating stark, minimal, and hauntingly beautiful monochromatic images and I love them! What’s even more valuable than looking at his galleries is dipping into his extensive YouTube videos, here he documents both his extensive travels and his photographic philosophy.

Today, he lives a nomadic life, with his wife (who is a digital nomad herself), splitting time between the United States and Europe.

You might like to follow him on Instagram or visit his blog, where he also shares his thoughts about photography.

Here’s a recent video:

Watching Adrian has encouraged me to think about long exposures which I’ve not really tried to date. Also being more positive about miserable, damp, foggy weather. Adrian loves these conditions and I can see why – as a sun worshipper I’m going to have to amend my mindset!

I’ve also looked at some of my old images to see if I can create something like the look that Adrian does. Here’s the results of that little exercise:

I’m mulling whether to go monochromatic for next year – nothing but. Interesting challenge or too limiting??
