A beautiful hot, sunny day drew the crowds this afternoon to Scarborough seafront – more than I expected as England were playing their first game against Croatia in the Euros 2021.
I parked the car in a residential street and walked some distance to North Bay. I’m not really a seaside person, well at least popular beaches, so this was a new experience for me and I was slightly shocked by just how many people there were. I walked above the beach and took some shots to try and capture the busy scene below.
I was aware I had to be careful, there were lots of children around and obviously people in swimsuits, but despite trying to be discrete a woman asked why I was taking photos. She was a mother and was concerned I was up to no good – I reassured her but I did feel uncomfortable.
The beach huts to my left looked great, all colourful and busy with the owners sat outside.
Once I got to the end of the bay I skirted round inland to the boating lake and railway.
This group of hatted elderly people caught my eye as did the reflection in a Mercedes convertible.
The walk to what I think is called South Bay is quite a long stretch with not a great deal to see – a gorgeous husky decided it wanted a better view.
When I arrived at the extremely busy funfair and the next stretch of beach I decided to play safe (cowardly I know) and use my iPhone which is more discrete than my Canon 750D. I also dug out my remote clicker which meant a high loss rate and dodgy composition but some interesting results amongst the wastage.
I didn’t realise there was a big wheel.
I will return on another sunny day.
And England beat Croatia 1.0 – hurrah.
